Micro Lending in Mexico

The MATT Foundation’s micro lending initiatives in Mexico gives entrepreneurs the opportunity to establish roots and build successful businesses in their native communities through strategic partners. According to the Micro Finance Information Exchange in 2007 62% of micro loan recipients in Mexico lived in rural areas and 80% were women. With access to micro loans, loan recipients can stay in Mexico and help spur their local economies. In 2007, 1.6 million people spurred their local economies thanks to micro loans.

The MATT Micro Lending Extension Program targets strategic rural areas in Mexico, to not only better the economies of the communities and increase personal wealth, but to provide options, thus eliminating the necessity of migration.
MATT is partnering with Micro-Finance Institutions in Mexico to accomplish this goal. If you are interested in obtaining a Micro-Loan under this program and would like more information on the pre-requisites please click HERE.

Additionally, The MATT Foundation introduced micro lending in Mexico in 2006 in conjunction with KIVA.org (the leading online person-to-person micro lending organization) and with collaboration from partnering Micro-Finance Institutions launched a pilot program to offer micro loans to Mexican entrepreneurs. Since 2006, more than 2 million dollars have been loaned, benefiting more than 3,000 families.

Since 2006, KIVA.org has since launched additional pilot programs with other Micro-Finance Institutions across various areas in Mexico. For more information on KIVA.org partnering Micro-Finance Institutions in Mexico, please visit www.kiva.org
